Frequently Asked Questions about Bygones

Is Bygones Open?

Bygones is open daily from 10am, and open every day of the year, except Christmas Day. During busy and peak periods we may extend our opening times if there is demand, please check our Booking Page for this information.

How long will my visit last?

You can expect your visit to Bygones to last around 2 hours.

Is every item really genuine?

Very much so! We pride ourselves on the fact that all of our items are 100% genuine artifacts, and that every item has its own historical story to tell.

What is new this year?

We are constantly adding new items to celebrate different events or as we acquire more displayable items. Check out our What’s New page to discover what we have added this year.

Do you accept Dogs?

We love doggie friends and welcome well behaved dogs throughout Bygones. Dogs must be accompanied by an adult and on a lead.

Do you offer any discounts for local Bay residents?

Yes, Stay Local! Every Friday Bygones offers a 20% discount off the standard ticket price for anyone with a TQ postcode. Simply show a proof of address.

Do you offer any discounts for Groups?

We welcome Groups and offer a discounted ticket price for Groups over 15 people. Find out more on our Groups page or phone 01803 326108.

Do you offer any other discounts?

We offer a discounted ticket price for Serviced Armed Forces, Forces Veterans and their guests. ID is required.

Can I bring my own food?

Sadly not. With so many historical precious and irreplaceable items on display, we would be very sad to see anything stained or dirtied by food or drink. We do have our very own themed Station Cafe, open every day for drinks, snacks, sandwiches, hot food and handmade cakes. We do ask that all food and drink is consumed within the cafe.

Is photography permitted inside Bygones?

Visitors to Bygones are welcome to take photographs and short videos for personal use during their visit, we love to see and share you posts on social media, so please do tag us in #BygonesTorquay.

Are pushchairs permitted inside Bygones?

Bygones is set over three floors. Based in an old quirky building, there are no lifts and a few steps to tackle between floors. Pushchairs must be left at the visitor reception to conform to our fire regulations.

Is Bygones accessible for disabled visitors?

We do not have lift access due to it being a 1920s building however we welcome everyone to Bygones. There are handrails on all the stairs and there are seats along the way. We offer a ground floor rate to disabled visitors and registered carers. Guide dogs are permitted in the museum.

Do you purchase / accept donations of vintage items?

We search long and far to acquire items that have a historical story. Many objects come from private sellers who have been handed down items from relatives. We do purchase certain items, if you have items you would like to consider for sale, please email info@bygones.co.uk with a description and photography of the items and one of our experts will get back to you. For items you wish to donate, please visit our donations page.

I am also interested in collecting Militaria items, do you sell any items?

Yes, we have our very own online shop that sells a wide range of genuine militaria items, including Victorian, WWI and WWII and post war medals, plaques, badges, photographs, uniforms, weapons all perfect for collectors. Visit our online shop section!
