Genuine Naval General Service Medal 1793 Clasp Syria
Boy 1st Class William Langford RN. (Later, Able Seaman)
Willam Langford was born in Portsea, Hampshire about 1821 and joined the Royal Navy in 1840 aged 18. He was listed as a 'Boy 1st Class' on the books of HMG GANGES (third rate 80 guns built 1821).
Served on HMS Ganges rated as 'Boy 1st Class' during the operations on and off the coast of Syria, during 1842 claiming the medal in 1849. He also served on the Royal Yacht, Victoria and Albert and continued to serve in the Royal Navy until 1871.
He was married to Sarah and they had 3 children and lived in Staunton Street, Portsea, Hampshire.
He died in 1896 and is buried at Portsea.
Condition of medal and ribbon as shown in photographs:
-Ribbon faded and possibly original/minor edge knocks (nicks) to rim of medal/minor bend to clasp/medal colour toned.
